TRINKHOR IV

Since our musical experience grew and we noticed that our musical style is still loved by many people, we have decided to bring out Trinkhhor IV this year. Actually, Trinkhor IV was already recorded in early 2008, but because of the uprising in Tibet, where hundreds of Tibetans were killed on the 10th of March 2008, we hesitated to publish it. Then, in January 2009, we thought that the time was right to release it at a benefit-concert in Switzerland. We very much hope that people will like this album.

By the way our concert was a great success. The whole income will be divided in two parts. 50% will be donated to the Tibetan community in Switzerland / Lichtenstein and the other 50% will be donated to the children of Ronggya Adrak in India.

TRINKHOR III

Many of my fans asked me, why I took such a long break after Trinkhor II.Well, as every one of you knows, in 1987/ 88 there was the great uprising of the Tibetans in Lhasa, which was cracked down brutally. I personally decided to henceforth use all my energy and time for the Tibetan cause and therefore I worked in different organisations in Europe more than ever before. Then, in 2007, my children had grown up and they incited me to write new songs and produce a new album. Consequently, Trinkhor III, which I recorded together with my children, came out in 2007. This album focused on contemporary music, because the Tibetan music scene had changed completely as compared to 1987.

Meanwhile many new Tibetan artists and groups from inside and outside Tibet appeared with fantastic new pop songs. So we noticed that it will be hard work to revive Trinkhor after 20 years of absence. The Tibetan music market reached out for new pop songs rather than old traditional songs. Fortunately, after the release of Trinkor III, we experienced that our old fans were still faithful to us and many young new fans appreciated our new songs. Songs like „Beautiful girl“ and „Never give up“ were awarded in „Musictibet“ as the best love songs and as the best lyrics for 2007. The song „Women‘s right“ is the first Tibetan song ever, which was viewed by more than 500.000 people in Youtube and still this number is growing every day.

On the whole „Trinkhor“ had a successful comeback in 2007. Again all the income was donated on behalf of the two orphan children villages in Kham and Amdo.

TRINKHOR II

Trinkhor II was a continuation of Trinkhor I in the hope to repeat the great success. The formation of the musicians was a bit different.

We tried to put the musical standard a little bit higher. Songs like “Norzin La“, “Chugang Drenlu“, “Ama Changma La“. became hits at that time. “Norzin La“ was several times covered by other bands and awarded as the second best love song even in the year 2006, 20 years after its release. Many young Tibetan artists nowadays, like Phurbu T. Namgyal, Tenzin Woeser etc., commented in some interviews that they were influenced and inspired by our songs. This really gives us great satisfaction. We contributed Trinkhor II to the Tibetan Homes Foundation in Mussorrie to sell it for themselves.

All proceeds directly went to them.

TRINKHOR I

The huge resonance that the Tibetan community gave to our album „Nangma“ showed us that among the Tibetans there was a great need for such music. That is why in the year 1985 I produced the second album called „Trinkhor I“ with my band called „Potala Band “,which consisted of some German friends like Gregor Verhufen, a great guitar-player.

It was indeed my intention not only to create Tibetan pop songs but also to impress the Tibetan youth with traditional Tibetan music. That is why I invited some Tibetan musicians from Switzerland, to work together on this task. It was the very first time I had contact with Tsering Topden Nelung. He was and still is a great master of the traditional Tibetan music, called Nangma. So „Trinkhor I“ was a successful combination of modern Tibetan and traditional Tibetan music which created many fans among old and young. Songs like „Nam Gongi Nyinda“, „Yeshe Norbu“, „Zugdze Yala “etc. became evergreens, which were covered by many other bands and is even heard nowadays (2009).
My late joke-partner, Namgyal Gonpo Ronge, who was a great entertainer, telling unforgettable jokes in that album, contributed a great deal to this immense success. He passed away 2007 in Nepal.

Trinkhor I was also a great success financially. In the end the whole album produced some 100 000.- Indian Rupees, which were donated to the Council for Tibetan Education in Dharamsala. Because of some political contents, Trinkhor I was officially forbidden in Tibet, but it found its ways even to the remote areas of Tibet and also to the Tibetan students in China. Trinkhor I was our breakthrough and it made us popular among Tibetans in and outside of Tibet.
